Interview - A&A
Square Emerald
The Square Emerald Cut is Stunning and Durable due to the cut corners. At A&A, we make sure our Sapphires have at least 95% clarity as imperfections are shown easily and stand out more in the Emerald Cut because of the larger table. On the flip side, this larger table and deep pavilion draws your eyes and light inwards to the core of the stone. This effect allows for the colour to be intensified and enhances the richness of the colour of the stone
Rectangular Emerald
The Emerald Cut follows the same concept as other Sapphire cuts- lighter colour tones have many small facets and darker colour tones have larger facets. The Rectangular Emerald by A&A is a popular cut as they look larger than other shapes and they have more surface area. For example, a 1 carat emerald cut has 5% more surface area than a round 1 carat. At A&A, we couple this cut with eye pleasing symmetry that makes the Sapphire exceptionally unique
Brilliant Oval
The Oval Cut is a favourite as the Sapphire’s shape has no sharp corners, so it’s less prone to chipping. A&A recommends the Brilliant Oval for lighter to medium coloured Sapphires. This cut gives out the best fire because of its many smaller facets. the oval shape retains the color of the stone which means it is perfect for medium to lighter colored stones. At A&A, we try to match the above proportions, from the diagram, for our oval brilliant cut as much as possible depending on the shape of the Sapphire
Portuguese Oval
The slender body of Oval shaped Sapphires create a beautiful elongated look that makes hands and fingers appear slimmer. If your Sapphire of preference is of a medium to dark colour tone, A&A recommends the Portuguese Cut. This cut is the best way to retain colour and can be modified to have larger facets, allowing more light to enter the Sapphire, giving it the best brilliance for a darker gemstone
Brilliant Cushion
If you prefer a lighter coloured cushion Sapphire, A&A recommends The Brilliant Cut. This cut gives out the best fire and brilliance because of its many smaller facets. This shape also retains the color of the stone, which makes it apt for medium to lighter coloured Sapphires. The corners of the stones are curved which makes it durable
Radiant Cushion
For those who prefer the square shaped variety, A&A brings you the Radiant Cushion. This cut is the perfect way to retain the colour. It can be modified to have larger facets allowing more light to enter making it a good option for darker stones, as it enhances the brilliance. This shape is also a fairly durable cut, due to its cut corners
Brilliant Cut
The cut of the Sapphire is determined by the shape of it. For round shaped Sapphires, We, at A&A, select the Brilliant cut for gemstones that have a medium to lighter tone. This allows us to make full use of the lights reflecting and refracting properties to bring out the best fire, brilliance and sparkle of the Sapphire
Mixed Step Cut
The Mixed Step Cut is also known as the Ceylon Cut. At A&A, for round Sapphires with a darker tone it is important for us to allow more light to come in, and for that we need to make sure the facets are larger. The Step cut allows this to happen. The Ceylon cut has a step-cut pavilion and a brilliant-cut crown. This ancient technique is still used in Sri Lanka.
White
The pairing of Sapphires with precious metals is an individual choice, therefore at A&A we help you pick the one that makes your Stunning Sapphire stand out the best. When pairing a precious metal with a White Sapphire, we advise choosing White Gold or Platinum. The white gold colour will not tint the colour of the Sapphire, like the Yellow gold would, and this will result in maximum sparkle and glitter Image is for illustrative purposes only.
Ruby
Rubies come under the same corundum as Sapphires and their colours can vary from pink to blood red. At A&A, along with sourcing excellent quality Rubies, we have sketch artists that show you your finished design, with different precious metals as the carrier's to your Stunning Gemstones, allowing you to picture and anticipate the Spectacular finished piece! Sapphire
The signature colour of Sapphires is this Gorgeous Velvet Blue, but Sapphires are found in other colour tones and well. At A&A, we have a wide selection of colours in Light, Medium and Dark tones to suit your preferences. We are also able to show you the Sapphires alongside the precious metals so that you can choose the perfect combination of Gem and Jewellery. Images are for illustrative purposes only.
Clarity
The clarity of the gemstone depends on the internal inclusions and external blemishes on the Sapphire that are invisible to the naked eye.Fewer the impacts, superior the Sapphire. At A&A , our Sapphires are 95-100% clean when inspected under the loupe
Carat
Sapphires are weighed in Carats. This is not the size of the gem, but the weight of it. A 1 carat Sapphire is approximately 6mm in size. As the Carat weight should be reflective of the dimensions of the stone, at A&A we do ideal cuts so the dimensions and the carat weight is proportional.
Colour
The colour refers to the natural body colour of the Sapphire and not to the reflection of spectral colours. The price soars with the colour moving from moderate to intense. At A&A, our Sapphires range from medium to intense colour tones with a uniform spread saturation and hue.
Cut
The cut of a Sapphire is how the sparkle is determined.A lapidary cuts multiple flat planes known as facets into the surface of the gem. The facets reflect light and create sparkle. At A&A, our experienced lapidaries are able to gauge the best cut for a Sapphire to bring out the maximum fire and brilliance.
